About John

Every year, the Town of Marana awards distinguished citizens for their service in the community through exemplary volunteer service.

The Ora Mae Harn Crystal Legacy Award was presented to John Officer in 2011. The Ora Mae Harn Crystal Legacy Award is given to an individual who has exhibited caring and passion for the community through service and volunteerism.

I love Arizona and fell even more in love with it when I moved to Marana over 32 years ago. I was born in this beautiful state and raised in Buckeye, Laveen and Gila Bend. I’m happily married with six children, nine grandchildren as well as a beautiful great-grandbaby girl.

In conjunction with my Bachelor's Degree, my career spans over 40 years and includes decades of farming, ranching and construction. I also spent over three decades in Aqueduct Maintenance with the Central Arizona Project (CAP) which is Arizona’s single largest resource for renewable water supplies.

My passion for sustainable management and reliable delivery of water was ignited all those years ago. As a token of my efforts, I was awarded CAP’s Employee of the Year back in 1998. This same passion continues today through my on-going endeavors and continued performance. I have also maintained a successful small business in Marana (John Officer Custom Weed Control) for the last 25 years.

Community involvement is very important to me, and has been as long as I can remember. I have served our community through membership over the years in many different capacities. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Southern Arizona Food Bank Advisory Board (Marana Resource Center)
  • Marana Planning and Zoning Commissioner
  • Marana Parks and Recreation Commissioner
  • Marana Chamber of Commerce
  • Marana Community Forums
  • Boy Scouts of America as an Eagle Scout Coach
  • Arizona National Scenic Trail Association
  • Marana Town Council

As a testimony to community service and the residents I serve in Marana, every year the Town of Marana awards residents and businesses for their service in the community. One of these prestigious awards is the Ora Mae Harn Crystal Legacy Award, of which I was humbled with the very first of these annual honors.  The Crystal Legacy Award is given to an individual who has exhibited caring and passion for the community through their service and volunteerism. Even today, I continue to cultivate community service as part of my everyday life. I humbly ask for your support and to be your voice for our beautiful town of Marana.
